Wa­ter out­ages to end

FOR some Can­non­vale res­i­dents who have had to skip showers dur­ing the past month due to burst wa­ter mains, your wa­ter woes are soon to end.

Whit­sun­day Re­gional Coun­cil Mayor Jen­nifer Whit­ney said in light of the Manooka Drive area be­ing one of the old­est es­tab­lished in Can­non­vale, a “wa­ter main re­newal” had been in­cluded in the up­com­ing 2015–16 coun­cil bud­get.

Cr Whit­ney con­firmed there had been three wa­ter main breaks on Manooka Dr in the past month.

“Coun­cil’s wa­ter and sew­er­age depart­ment has com­menced de­sign works for the up­grade, with a view to com­menc­ing the work as soon as pos­si­ble,” she said.

“In the mean­time, coun­cil work­ers have pro­vided an in­terim fix, in­clud­ing the in­stal­la­tion of ad­di­tional valves to min­imise any fur­ther dis­rup­tion of this area.” Cr Whit­ney thanked af­fected res­i­dents for their pa­tience and un­der­stand­ing.
