Yeb Sano talk reignites the local passion
SPEAKING at the Whitsunday Arts and Cultural Centre on Sunday afternoon, Filipino climate change campaigner Yeb Sano urged locals to keep up the fight for the Great Barrier Reef.
Environment Council of Central Queensland campaign organiser Tony Fontes said “it was inspiring”.
“Sometimes in Australia, with the government going the way they’re going, you feel like you’re fighting a losing battle, but he was quick to point out that we’re not alone,” Mr Fontes said.
Airlie Beach being Mr Sano’s last stop in Australia, Mr Fontes said we were “really quite fortunate” he came.
“His stops have been Sydney, Brisbane, places like that,” he said
“But because we’re at the coal face here, no pun intended, he wanted to come up and say ‘hang in there guys’.”
