Wet weather no daydream for race

Whitsunday Times - - ON THE WATER -

ON SUNDAY, members of the Whitsunday Sailing Club took part in a short offshore race.

Seven boats lined up under a decidedly dubious looking sky for a race around Daydream Island and for Division 2 competitors including White Rock.

The breeze was strong at the start, and boats enjoyed a fast and furious reach out to Pioneer Point before turning down the passage against the tide.

Treasure VIII picked the edge of the breeze perfectly and soon stretched away from the rest of the division in a steady wall of rain causing some frustrating holes on the course. Once around White Rock, kites were hoisted for the ride home and the skies cleared to dry out the soaked crews.

Huahine and Wobbly Boot enjoyed a close tussle, with a mere three minutes between them at the finish and Huahine claiming the handicap win

In Division 3 the heavier Anthea preferred the stronger conditions, soon pulling away from rivals Rossgo to finish a comfortable 18 minutes ahead.

Presentations were held at the club, where damp crews compared notes about the race.
