Double delight for Airlie
Two wins in as many days has seen the Airlie Beach Bowls Club’s division three pennants team rocket up the ladder.
Last Saturday, the team defeated North Mackay at Airlie Beach on all three rinks, gaining five points for their efforts.
They backed up that impressive outing last Sunday, downing Mackay RSL at Slade Point.
Airlie again won all three rinks, netting five points and moving within half a point of competition leaders South Suburban with three rounds remaining.
In other news, Elaine Kippen, Tess Walker and Margo Stanley won over Elaine Kippen, Jenny Ryder and Betty Nicoll on ladies’ day, triumphing 19-17 at the Airlie Beach Bowls Club.
Men’s jackpot play on Wednesday saw Wally Gray, Ian Meltzer and Barry Zillmann take down John Sladek, Dom Sposato and Russel Bramich.
Henny Tattam, Ron Reimers and Maureen Barnard won over Jenny Ryder, Connie Wilkinson and Maureen Barnard 25-12 in social play last Sunday at the Airlie Beach Bowls club while Lane Telford and Bruce Purdie got the better of Betty Nicoll and Eric Bottle 22-15.
Russel Bramich, Jill Spencer and Col Howes defeated Margo Stanley, Jo Howes and Gus Ferliano 22-20 to round out the day’s play, which was held in good spirits despite the wet weather.
The club also farewelled Jo and Col Howes who are moving south.
