Dou­ble de­light for Air­lie

Two wins in as many days has seen the Air­lie Beach Bowls Club’s di­vi­sion three pen­nants team rocket up the lad­der.

Last Satur­day, the team de­feated North Mackay at Air­lie Beach on all three rinks, gain­ing five points for their ef­forts.

They backed up that im­pres­sive out­ing last Sun­day, down­ing Mackay RSL at Slade Point.

Air­lie again won all three rinks, net­ting five points and mov­ing within half a point of com­pe­ti­tion lead­ers South Sub­ur­ban with three rounds re­main­ing.

In other news, Elaine Kip­pen, Tess Walker and Margo Stan­ley won over Elaine Kip­pen, Jenny Ry­der and Betty Ni­coll on ladies’ day, tri­umph­ing 19-17 at the Air­lie Beach Bowls Club.

Men’s jack­pot play on Wed­nes­day saw Wally Gray, Ian Meltzer and Barry Zill­mann take down John Sladek, Dom Sposato and Rus­sel Bramich.

Henny Tat­tam, Ron Reimers and Mau­reen Barnard won over Jenny Ry­der, Con­nie Wilkin­son and Mau­reen Barnard 25-12 in so­cial play last Sun­day at the Air­lie Beach Bowls club while Lane Telford and Bruce Pur­die got the bet­ter of Betty Ni­coll and Eric Bot­tle 22-15.

Rus­sel Bramich, Jill Spencer and Col Howes de­feated Margo Stan­ley, Jo Howes and Gus Fer­liano 22-20 to round out the day’s play, which was held in good spir­its de­spite the wet weather.

The club also farewelled Jo and Col Howes who are mov­ing south.
