Second police assault

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

ASSAULTING a police officer for the second time in less than two years almost put a Whitsunday panel beater and deckhand behind bars.

Craig Allan Brady was initially involved in an argument with another man at the Airlie Beach McDonald’s on May 26 at 2.15am.

In court on Monday, prosecutor Elizabeth Smith said the men were told to stop arguing but Brady continued and swung his arm at police.

The court heard the 41year-old was placed on a suspended sentence for seriously assaulting a police officer in 2014.

“You’re belligerent, obnoxious and aggressive, and that is easily ascertained looking at your criminal history,” magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist said.

Brady was sentenced to four months imprisonment with an immediate parole release.

He was also ordered to complete 40 hours of community service and banned from licensed premises in Jubilee Pocket and Airlie Beach for one year.

The operational period of his current suspended sentence was extended to November 2015.
