Qld TV crew chased something different

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

FROM a home among the gumtrees to survival techniques at Cedar Creek Falls, Channel Seven’s lifestyle program Queensland Weekender had a different kind of Whitsunday experience.

The series’ crew visited the region last week chasing things that were unusual about our tropical paradise.

The results of their search included footage from performances at the Whitsunday Arts and Culture Centre (WACC) and mainland tours with bushman and survival expert Bruce Morrison.

But of course they also made it out to the iconic Whitsunday islands and Great Barrier Reef.

A night under the stars with bush ballads performed by local musician Bob Barford at the WACC was the perfect ending to a trip to the reef with Cruise Whitsundays near the start of their adventure.

Next on the agenda was the mainland exploration and Mr Morrison said he “couldn’t have asked for a better day” with the crew.

“It was wonderful that we had some good rain to bring the (Cedar Creek) falls to life after such a considerable dry spell,” he said.

After visiting the falls the crew enjoyed a talk on survival techniques and bush tucker and they even spotted some turtles.

They then headed out to Conway Beach for a history lesson on the Cumberland/ Whitsunday Islands.

After this was a lunch at Hydeaway Bay’s Montes Reef Resort, where Mr Morrison described the feed of kangaroo, crocodile, prawns and oysters as “real Australian cuisine” that added feel to what the tour was all about.

“This tour is the most comprehensive mainland tour in the area and offers a different look at our beautiful mainland and what it has to offer,” he said.

“I believe that Queensland Weekender will have a significant impact on my business and its introduction into the Whitsundays as a premier mainland tour.”

The television crew also went jet skiing with Ocean Dynamics and paid a visit to the Whitsunday Regional Gallery in Proserpine.

The episode will air on August 1 at 5.30pm.
