Calling all creative students to events
IT’S an exciting time of the year for the Whitsundays’ creative students, with several regional design events about to take place.
First on the calendar is the 2015 Calliope Catwalk Fashion Design Awards on Saturday, August 1.
Closer to home, there’s the Whitsunday Reef Festival’s popular Wilmar Sugar Wearable Art Awards, set to take place on Saturday, August 8.
This colourful event has been a festival highlight for many years, attracting outstanding student and adult entries.
Students from Grade 3 upwards can enter, with entry forms due by the end of July. Lastly, students from local secondary schools will have the chance to showcase their artistic, design and sewing talents on stage at the MECC on Saturday, August 22.
The Mackay Festival of Fashion has art, wearable art and fashion categories and has been a favourite event for Whitsunday entrants for many years.
A free, must-see exhibition to inspire wearable artists of all ages will take place during the school holidays at the Perc Tucker Gallery in Townsville until July 12.
Reef Festival Wearable Art Awards spokesperson Pam Pole said Whitsunday students had a proud record of exceptional success in wearable art and fashion design at local, regional, state and national levels.
“And these coming events will give our students the opportunity to shine again,” she said. “Motivated students of all ages are planning to take advantage of the July school holidays to plan and create their entries for the three prestigious events in August.”
