Di­vi­sion five pen­nants loss for Proser­pine

The Proser­pine Bowls Club suf­fered a loss to North Mackay last week­end, fall­ing 71-48.

The di­vi­sion five team played in North Mackay last Satur­day when Ross Reville’s team lost 34-10, Barry Zill­mann’s group won 18-16 and Vince Olsen’s boys went down 21-20.

This week­end the team will host Souths Sub­ur­ban at Proser­pine from 11am on Satur­day while the di­vi­sion one team will play Mackay on Sun­day at home.

In other news, Gavin Milne, Shane Spann and Wayne Han­d­ley teamed with Air­lie Beach’s An­drew Bell for a ter­rific cam­paign at the Aus­tralian Open on the Gold Coast.

Han­d­ley and Bell got through the sec­tional play in both the sin­gles and pairs, go­ing down to stiff com­pe­ti­tion in the knock­out rounds.

Mean­while in last Sun­day’s so­cial play, Col Gif­ford, Flo O’Han­lon, Bar­bara Dam- mash and Heather Brown de­feated John Lah­ney, John Dam­mash, Dot Hin­schen and Gor­don Kay 26-17 while Jeanette Cal­way, Fran Porter and John Hen­der­son won over Car­lie Al­bert­son, Norma Daniels and Kevin Thoro­good 20-4.

LADIES

LAST Tues­day, the ladies had a trip to Sa­rina for pen­nants’ play.

Heather Brown’s team de­feated Carmel Jenkin’s team 27-18 while Maree Daf­fara’s group went down 24-19 to Jenny Dyce’s team. Over­all, Proser­pine won the day 4642.

In other news, last Wed­nes­day two games of con­sis­tency sin­gles were played.

Lois Read de­feated Wendy Pomeroy 113-97 and Amy Hart got the bet­ter of Car­lie Al­bert­son 151-59.

In so­cial play, Col Gif­ford, Faye Brazel and Bar­bara Dam­mash knocked over Dar­rell Pat­ullo, Fran Porter and Flo O’Han­lon 23-17 while Judy McKen­zie, Gor­don Kay and Heather Pat­ullo ousted Mary Hedge­long, Tony Brazel and Lil­lian Harris 22-14.

Also this week Fran Porter and Lil­lian Harris rep­re­sented Proser­pine at the of­fi­cial dis­trict visit at Sub­ur­ban.

In com­pe­ti­tion games com­ing up, the club will host Club Cham­pi­onship Pairs’ matches on June 28 from 1.30pm.

Pa­troness and life mem­ber Flo O’Han­lon will also host her day of bowls on July 8.
