Rising Sorley second in super series
Whitsunday local Sam Sorley has won silver at the Mackay Mountain Bike club’s third and final race of their crosscountry series on Saturday night.
The series, held over eight weeks with more than 50 riders, concluded with a one-hour race at Rowallan Park last weekend.
Sam, a Whitsunday Mountain Bike Club member, finished second to Mackay’s Eva Plessing in the race to secure the win for the series outright.
Whitsunday club president Michael Sorley also had a solid race, finishing fifth to take a series win in his division.
In other news, the Whitsunday Mountain Bike Club has held an ‘introduction to mountain biking’ two-day camp.
The initiative welcomed first-timers Josh Dyke, Bret Schy and Steve Knight, who all returned solid performances.
Last Sunday morning, an additional six riders from Mackay and Moranbah joined Whitsunday for a skills session, led by MTBA accredited coach Peter Lister.
“The skills session was extremely successful with participants learning how to corner efficiently and confidently. Improvement was noticeable in the 90-minute lesson and was followed by a guided ride of the trails where we got to put our new tips into practice,” club secretary Chris Labes said.
