CQ selection for four young Raiders
Four junior Whitsunday Raiders will take on the state’s best next weekend on the Gold Coast.
Jack Kearns, Ben Cornish, Aaron Kearns and Connor Spence have been selected in the Central Queensland Bushrangers team for their respective age groups following stellar Country Muster carnivals earlier this month.
The young Raiders, playing for Mackay, travelled to Emerald for games against teams from Far North Queensland and Cairns over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
As a result of their impressive performances, Ben and Jack were picked in the under-16 team while Aaron and Connor will represent the under-13s. “It was a very good carnival with a high-level of rugby played,” Junior Raiders president Jacinta Kearns said. “We had most (under) 15s go down, playing in the 16s so they did well in a tough competition.
“All the Raiders played well against some quality opposition.”
Both the under-13 and 16 teams will fly to the Gold Coast on July 1 for a short camp before the state championships on July 3. The CQ teams will play five or six games against the state’s best players.
In other news, information on the start of the junior rugby season will become available soon. “Parents interested in the Junior Raiders should keep their ears to the ground. We will have a meeting shortly to discuss the start of the season,” Kearns said.
