Reverse round for karters

Karting round six has drivers doing it back to front for fun

Whitsunday Times - - MOTORING -

WHITSUNDAY karters got a taste of something different at the weekend.

For only the third time since karts have been taking to the asphalt, drivers got to run the raceway in reverse.

Whitsunday Motosports Club president Adam Stroud said they had received some great feedback, with karters saying it felt like “a whole different track”.

The change up produced some very close racing, with Mr Stroud highlighting the combined senior class as particularly hotly contested, with “different placing in every race”.

In the Cadet 9 division, it was Cruise Mason who took out the top spot, followed by Jack Nicolls, Damian White and Ripley Beale.

Tristan Lambert claimed pole position for the Cadet 12 division, with Lara Hadlow in second, Remy Haller in third and Bodie Rabnot rounding out the placings.

Joshua Hislop was the only contender in the TAG 125 Hea- vy category, claiming the points.

The Sportsman Light division also had only one racer, with Georgie Nowell therefore finishing first.

The Sportsman Heavy was not similarly undermanned, with Timothy Nowell claiming top of the podium come the chequered flag.

In the run down were Peter Hill in second, Warren Hooper in third, Ralf Menzel in fourth and Duncan Robb in fifth. The Sportsman Super Heavy was again under contested, with Adam Nicolls the only karter.

Karters have a major event quickly approaching in the Great Barrier Reef Titles.

The titles will be contested at the Whitsunday Raceway from Saturday, August 12, to Sunday, August 13.

Although the event is relatively new, it has quickly gained a reputation as being one of the premier titles in North Queensland, with karters expected to come from as far afield as Cairns, Mount Isa and Ipswich.

CLUB CHAMPS: Senior karters take to the track for a combined Sportsman Light and Heavy reverse race on Sunday.
