Alternate skippers swamped at twilight
WITH last Wednesday being the fifth in the month, alternative skippers took to the helm for the Whitsunday Sailing Club’s twilight race in the challenging 20 plus knots conditions.
The competition for the start in Division 2 was fierce and forced a general recall, where Kathryn Galloway on
QMS timed the second start to perfection.
The fight was then on for the podium win and the Twister combination of Dave Sievers and Tania Jarvis saw just two seconds between them and QMS at the finish, with Twister just managing to steal the handicap win.
In Division 3, Kameruka hit the ground running and sailed her heart out to take line honours over High Tide by a comfortable two minutes and claim the podium win as well.
Serendipity was the best starter, setting herself up for a podium second place.
Presentations were held at the Sailing Club after the race, where Rear Commodore Off Shore, Kevin Fogarty, congratulated the helms people of the afternoon and thanked the usual skippers for handing over their boats.
“It’s great to see different skippers behind the wheel or tiller and to give our crews the chance to helm our boats,” he said.
