Prossie defeats Suburban, falls to Pioneer Valley
PROSERPINE BOWLS: Team Kinnear, featuring Bryan Davy, won one of two games in their Champion of Champions’ fours campaign over the weekend.
Shane Kinnear, Michael Kinnear, Grahame Kinnear and Davy (sub for Luke Kinnear) took on the event at the Marian Bowls Club, ousting Suburban on Saturday afternoon.
The men weren’t able to back-up that performance on Sunday morning, falling to Pioneer Valley.
Closer to home, there were good numbers for social play at the Proserpine Bowls Club.
Adrian Watt, Lois Read and Barbara Dammash defeated Neil Robinson, Dan Robinson and Wayne Handley 28-16 while Betty Evans and Andy Monk knocked over Vicki Spann and Heather Brown 2711.
Fran Porter, John Henderson and Vince Olsen teamed up to beat Arthur Williams, Norma Daniels and Philip Brown 28-16 and Jeanette Calway, Dot Hinschen and Pepper Evans took the points over Carlie Albertson, John Lahney, John Dammash and Ross Reville 23-12.
Jo Peasley and John Leggett took the points over Peter Verran and Shane Spann 2716.
The winner of the Sunday Trophy, for the team with the lowest score, was Heather Brown’s group.
More than halfway through the President’s Social Participation Trophy, the leader board reads Fran Porter (71), Heather Brown (63), John Lahney (57), Dot Hinschen (55), Flo O’Hanlon (52), Arthur Williams (48), Jo Peasley (42), Norma Daniels (38), Philip Brown (37) and Wendy Pomeroy (36).
On Tuesday Fran Porter competed in the Champion of Champions B Singles at Pioneer Valley.
Fran was defeated 11-25 in her game against Michele Stockton, who went on to win the event, from Northern Beaches. On Wednesday at Proserpine there was a game of Consistency Singles played.
Norma Daniels (119 minus 15) knocked over Amy Hart (91 minus 15).
There were also two games of social bowls played, with Cathy Holmes, Flo O’Hanlon and Lillian Harris ousting Carlie Albertson, John Lahney and Joy Jeffries 20–9.
Competition games on Wednesday include the final of the Club Championship Pairs.
In other news, the team for the Friendship Shield, to be played against St Helens on Thursday, August 20, has been named.
Vicki Spann, Joy Jeffries, Lillian Harris and Heather Brown; Norma Daniels, Fran Porter, Wendy Pomeroy and Maree Daffara; Annette Patullo, Flo O’Hanlon, Lois Read and Heather Patullo will represent Proserpine.
The next committee meeting will be on Monday at the Proserpine Bowls Club.
