Monthly medal re­turns

The Air­lie Beach Ho­tel monthly medal re­turned to the Proser­pine Golf Club last Satur­day as the cham­pi­onship sea­son con­cluded.

A field of 73 men and 15 ladies com­peted, with the men’s win­ner be­ing John Kent, who also took out the B-grade ti­tle with a great net score of 63.

The A-grade ti­tle went to Gary Scot­ford on 67, ahead of run­ner-up Dar­ren Jones (68).

The B-grade run­ner-up was Troy Smith (65) while the Cgrade medal­list was Bill Jesser, also with 63 net, beat­ing run­ner-up Dave Bower on count­back.

Win­ner of the ladies Green Energy Tech­nolo­gies monthly medal was Paula McQuat with a fine 65 net ahead of run­nerup Wendy Bradley (71) and Meg Lyons (73). In the men’s run­down were Ken Wyl­lie (64), David Smith, Ross McNeill (65), Steve Knight (66), Dean Kercher (67), Glen McKer­ley (68) and Paul Douth­waite (69).

Thurs­day saw a good field of 61 play­ers take to the course in a stroke event, with some close scores em­a­nat­ing from ideal con­di­tions. The win­ner of Di­vi­sion 1 was Steve Stewart with a net 66, one ahead of run­ner-up Paul Douth­waite (68). Di­vi­sion 2 was a bat­tle of the ser­vices, with Gary Flan­nery (ex-army) beat­ing Dave Thomas (ex-RAAF) 66 to 68.

Flan­nery also won the nine­hole com­pe­ti­tion with a net 31 ahead of run­ner-up Glen McKer­ley (31.5), Rus­sell Rear­don (31.5), Steve Stewart (32.5), Dave Thomas (33) and Greg Walker (33.5).

Near­est-the-pins went to Steve Stewart on No.2, Greg Walker (9), Ron Lit­tle (13) and Shane Cooke (16).

The course will be closed to nor­mal com­pe­ti­tion this Satur­day due to the Proser­pine Ju­nior Open. In­stead, the ver­sus par event will be held on Sun­day from 10.30am. Thurs­day play­ers will con­test a sta­ble­ford event in two di­vi­sions over 18-holes as well as a nine­hole event.
