Monthly medal returns
The Airlie Beach Hotel monthly medal returned to the Proserpine Golf Club last Saturday as the championship season concluded.
A field of 73 men and 15 ladies competed, with the men’s winner being John Kent, who also took out the B-grade title with a great net score of 63.
The A-grade title went to Gary Scotford on 67, ahead of runner-up Darren Jones (68).
The B-grade runner-up was Troy Smith (65) while the Cgrade medallist was Bill Jesser, also with 63 net, beating runner-up Dave Bower on countback.
Winner of the ladies Green Energy Technologies monthly medal was Paula McQuat with a fine 65 net ahead of runnerup Wendy Bradley (71) and Meg Lyons (73). In the men’s rundown were Ken Wyllie (64), David Smith, Ross McNeill (65), Steve Knight (66), Dean Kercher (67), Glen McKerley (68) and Paul Douthwaite (69).
Thursday saw a good field of 61 players take to the course in a stroke event, with some close scores emanating from ideal conditions. The winner of Division 1 was Steve Stewart with a net 66, one ahead of runner-up Paul Douthwaite (68). Division 2 was a battle of the services, with Gary Flannery (ex-army) beating Dave Thomas (ex-RAAF) 66 to 68.
Flannery also won the ninehole competition with a net 31 ahead of runner-up Glen McKerley (31.5), Russell Reardon (31.5), Steve Stewart (32.5), Dave Thomas (33) and Greg Walker (33.5).
Nearest-the-pins went to Steve Stewart on No.2, Greg Walker (9), Ron Little (13) and Shane Cooke (16).
The course will be closed to normal competition this Saturday due to the Proserpine Junior Open. Instead, the versus par event will be held on Sunday from 10.30am. Thursday players will contest a stableford event in two divisions over 18-holes as well as a ninehole event.
