Concerned driver

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

TODAY I read about the problems that local taxi driver Max Freckelton has had to deal with.

A lot of these problems could be avoided if the taxi rank was back where it is supposed to be.

Whist on the subject of taxis I would like to remind the public that when ordering a cab you can request “not a maxi” if you don’t like travelling in maxi’s.

Also, when entering a taxi you can inform the driver to “run the meter and you will require a receipt upon reaching your destination”.

This will alleviate any doubts you may have about actual costs.

Last but not least, getting the first cab on the rank to go home is a courtesy, but customers can choose to go to the next car if they so desire – some people just don’t like driving in maxi’s etc.

If a driver doesn’t run the meter without informing you, then do not pay.

By law the driver must “run the meter and offer a receipt” or negotiate a fair price. Clive Lloyd (Polly)
