Sec­ond hand books wanted

ZONTA Club of the Whit­sun­days and Whit­sun­day Chris­tian Col­lege are invit­ing pri­mary school chil­dren to col­lect two books from home that they no longer read.

The stu­dents are en­cour­aged to bring the books to the col­lege li­brary for the first day of Book Week on Mon­day.

The pro­ject is to col­lect as many books as pos­si­ble for one of Zonta’s com­mit­tees called the Books from Birth com­mit­tee.

Books from Birth is an ini­tia­tive by Zonta mem­ber Judy Brett, who dur­ing the years has or­gan­ised for thou­sands of books to be sent to iso­lated In­dige­nous com­mu­ni­ties in Queens­land and the North­ern Ter­ri­tory.

The books col­lected are for chil­dren ideally from birth to eight years old.

When the pri­mary stu­dents have brought along their two books, they can then pur­chase some­one else’s for $1.

The funds raised will go to­wards the freight then Zonta keeps half the books for the pro­ject. For in­for­ma­tion con­tact the col­lege on 4948 5100.
