SICYC’s distin­guished guest

AMONG those ar­riv­ing in the Whit­sun­days for this week­end’s Shag Islet Cruis­ing Yacht Club Ren­dezvous is a par­tic­u­larly spe­cial guest. Distin­guished Pro­fes­sor Ju­dith Cle­ments will at­tend the event’s “hands across the blue” ini­tia­tive on Satur­day, when SICYC mem­bers get in their dinghies and form the shape of the Prostate Can­cer Foun­da­tion’s logo in the wa­ters off Montes Reef Re­sort. Pro­fes­sor Cle­ments is a prostate and ovar­ian can­cer re­searcher in the In­sti­tute of Health and Bio­med­i­cal In­no­va­tion, QUT, and sci­en­tific di­rec­tor of the Queens­land Prostate Can­cer Re­search Cen­tre. She was awarded the Queens­land Women in Tech­nol­ogy Biotech Out­stand­ing Achieve­ment Award for 2012, the pres­ti­gious ti­tle of Distin­guished Pro­fes­sor – the only woman in QUT’s history, in 2013; and the Com­pan­ion of the Or­der of Aus­tralia in 2015.
