Blues extend their lead
Golf memorial heats up for local players
WHITSUNDAY GOLF: It was another week and another win for the Blue team in round two of the Kerry Hall Memorial Trophy at the Proserpine Golf Club on Sunday.
Clever pairing in the team selection for the two-ball ambrose made for a 6-2 win for the Blues, taking their overall score to 16-8 with two rounds to go. The normal club competition was run in conjunction with the memorial, which was claimed by the pairing of Ross Richards and Wilf Herweg (61.5).
Rod Wecker and Robyn Mills (62.5) and Wayne Temby and Joanne Moynihan (64) were second and third respectively.
The longest drives for the day went to Ross Richards (Agrade), Kevin Mills (B-grade), Tessa Aitken and Linda War- droper (ladies) while nearest-the-pin shots were shared by Kevin Mills and Mick Caton (no. 2), Mal Carter and Peter Browning (9), Mal Hill and Mark McDougall (13) and Scott Wardroper and Tiina Randmae (16).
The WFX encouragement award went to Linda Wardroper for her brilliant longest drive shot.
This Sunday the four-ball best ball stableford club championships takes place from 7.30am while round three of the Kerry Hall Memorial Trophy will be held on September 13. Round three is a four-ball best ball and the Red team shouldn’t be worried about the score, remembering all too well how last year’s Blues came from a large deficit to decisively win the last round and claim the President’s Cup.
WHITSUNDAY WEEKLY WINNERS: Wilf Herweg (winner), Robyn Mills (runner-up), Wayne Temby (third), Joanne Moynihan (third) and Rod Wecker (runner-up).
