Eagles fall in final hurdle
AUSSIE RULES: The Allied Pickford’s Cup season is officially over for the Whitsunday Sea Eagles who ended the year with a loss to the Magpies.
Whitsunday started last Saturday’s game at Magpies Sports Park undermanned, leading to a quarter-time deficit of 38 points.
Once the team’s reinforcements arrived, in the way of junior players, the Sea Eagles more than held their own against the league’s third-ranked side, matching Magpies for most of the remaining three quarters.
Ultimately, the damage was done in the first term and Whitsunday eventually lost 19.10.124 to 9.9.63 to cap what has been a testing season for the club.
The team finished the Mackay AFL season in sixth position, with four wins from 15 games.
The competition’s finals series starts this weekend, with Eastern Swans to play Mackay City Hawks in the qualifying final. The loser plays either Magpies or Saints the following week.
