Family meal challenge on the table
NEXT week is Child Protection Week and the Whitsunday PCYC is hosting two events to educate and raise awareness of the value of children.
The week from September 6–12 will raise the profile on all issues connected with child protection, from child abuse prevention, treatment, research, education and service provision, to support for children, young people and families.
The Whitsunday PCYC will host a Happy Families information evening next Thursday on family health and youth mental health.
The evening will include guest speakers and information from the fields of nutrition, psychology and child protection.
Topics will include the importance of making time for family bonding in a busy world, cyber safety and food and well-being.
The evening will be free to attend and runs from 7–9pm.
The Whitsunday PCYC is also presenting a challenge to the region called Back to the Table.
The challenge is to have a week of family dinners.
PCYC community development officer Cassie Holeczy said statistics proved children who regularly sat down at the table for family dinners were happier, healthier and performed better.
Families can contact the PCYC for a free challenge pack, including easy recipes the entire family can be involved with, dinnertime conversation starters and activities, plus free passes to the PCYC’s family fun day.
That’s right, to celebrate raising awareness of child protection, the Whitsunday PCYC will host a family fun day on Saturday, September 12, for the whole community to enjoy.
