Comment by the Chair of the Tourism Strategic Advisory Group with Jeff Aquilina
I WOULD like to congratulate the 2015 Reef Festival and Airlie Beach Race Week on their massively successful events and for bringing in bumper numbers of visitors. Well done to all the hard-working organisers who bring these events to life each year.
Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ), in partnership with WMDL, is launching a $110,000 campaign on September 13 to stimulate bookings during the pre-Christmas period.
The six-week campaign will focus on digital activity to drive consumers to online holiday deals.
A prospectus was distributed to WMDL members last week, and deadline for responses is September 3. Contact Dawn Gibson at TEQ via firstname.lastname@example.org or 3535 5280.
As a result of a successful TEQ contestable grant application, the tourism team at WMDL will be forming a partnership with Australian Geographic to promote the Whitsundays region to Australian consumers.
The partnership includes exposure in all of the Australian Geographic Society’s 64 retail stores nationwide as well as bringing an Australian Geographic Society Masterclass Photo Workshop to the region.
WMDL will be inviting our tourism operators to buy into the partnership to promote special offers to Australian Geographic audiences.
A full prospectus will be distributed in the coming weeks with details on the opportunities available.
Submissions for the Tourism and Business Awards have been received and judging will commence soon.
Mark your calendars for the awards night celebration event on October 24.
With lots of fun surprises on the night, this is an event you won’t want to miss.
