WHITSUNDAY GOLF: Thirtythree players contested the Whitsunday Golf Club’s stroke competition, held in conjunction with round two of the Club Championships on Sunday.

Excellent scores abounded with countbacks required to decide the winners, which included Penny Wardroper in the ladies’ field and Ross Richards, who took out the overall Club Champion for 2015.

The nett winners in the Club Championships were Rod Wecker (A-grade), Mark McDougall (B-grade) and Penny Wardroper (ladies).

Ross Richards won the men’s A-grade stroke competition as well, carding 69 to pip Rod Wecker on a countback.

The best gross score in the A-grade field went to Danny York while Rod Wecker hit the day’s longest drive.

Mark McDougall topped the B-grade competition, carding 64 to edge out Kevin Mills and Ron Thynne (75).

B-grade’s best gross score went to Mark Winter and Reg Kercher won the longest drive.

Penny Wardroper’s 63 was good enough for the ladies’ prize while Beryl Miller picked up the runner-up title with 73.

Anna Winterbourn carded the day’s best gross score as well as a longest drive prize while Pauline Redpath was also acknowledged.

Nearest-the-pins went to Danny York (no.9 and 2), Mick Caton (13), Ross Richards (16), Mal Carter (2) and Brad Hammond (16).

This week’s Kevin Mills WFX Encouragement Award went to Penny Wardroper for her outstanding games over the last few weeks.

The much-loved ‘ dummy spit’ award went to a B-grade player, who won’t be named for putting four balls into the cane on the 14th hole.

This Sunday the Airlie Panel and Paint November Monthly Medal will be played at the Proserpine Golf Club.
