BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday co-owner Greg McKinnon described winning gold in the ‘Caravan and Holiday Parks’ category at the Queensland Tourism Awards in Brisbane on Friday night as “humbling”.

“We are just a small family run business and we have built our caravan park up from a half star property to being (a) leader in our industry over the past 22 years,” he said.

“(And) it is humbling to be in the company of the other 29 category winners and all the finalists.”

Mr McKinnon said the elements that combined to achieve this highest of industry honours for the state, included consistent quality service, a concerted customer focus, continual innovation and a commitment to deliver a traditional Australian family holiday experience.

“The secret to our success is lots of hard work, passion, great teamwork and a daily fo- cus on creating a special tourism experience,” he said.

“The Queensland Tourism Awards celebrate the very best Queensland has to offer and we are proud to be a part of this industry, and delivering a fantastic Australian tourism product.

“We extend our congratulations to all the other nominees, finalists and winners who put in the hard yards every day.”

Constantly upgrading the parks facilities and services is also a priority for the team at BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday.

The Palm House, a multipurpose function venue surrounded by tropical gardens is the newest innovation at the resort and makes it easier for guests to stay, meet or celebrate a special event all in one location.

This year the venue even played host to the local tourism awards, transforming from a formal ceremonial venue to a 70’s disco hall throughout the night.
