Air­lie Beach re­tains Bluck Shield

Twenty-two ladies from Air­lie Beach and Proser­pine stepped onto the bowl­ing green to con­test the an­nual Betty Bluck Shield.

The win­ning team com­prised of Doreen Peadon, Jenny Ry­der and Di Dob­bins, who de­feated Proser­pine’s Heather Brown, Joy Jef­fries and Norma Daniels 32-22.

Henny Tat­tam, Mar­garet Heeney and Elaine Kip­pen also won their triples’ game on the day, post­ing a 24-20 win over Heather Pat­ullo, June Blair and Lil­lian Har­ris.

In the fi­nal game, Air­lie’s Jill Spencer, Lane Telford and Con­nie Reimers suc­cumbed to Ma­ree Daffara, Lois Read and Fran Porter 20-15.

Air­lie won the day over­all, hold­ing onto the shield un­til the next chal­lenge thanks to their nine-point vic­tory.

In other news, men’s bowls got off to a good start de­spite the hot weather, with 11 play­ers on the green. The win­ners of the money were Peter Lawton, John Sladek and Rick Brunell, who knocked over Steve Tat­tam, David Stock and Herb Se­comb 36-20.

The other triples’ team, con- sist­ing of Nik Fern­bach, Bruce Pur­die and dou­ble-lead Dom Sposato, scored a dom­i­nant 32-7 win over John Ryan, Keith Dunn and Dom Sposato.

On Sun­day, 16 play­ers took part in so­cial play but the jack­pot was not won.

The club’s Cruise Whit­sun­days Car­ni­val will be held in Air­lie Beach this Satur­day, with a wealth of great prizes.
