Schoolies booze bust sees 60 litres binned

SIXTY litres of Great North­ern beer, Vodka Cruis­ers, rum, vodka and liqueur went in the bin on Satur­day af­ter the booze was found in the car of three un­der-aged boys.

The Townsville boys’ ve­hi­cle was searched at a traf­fic stop at Shute Har­bour Rd as they were on their way into Air­lie Beach Schoolies at about 3pm Satur­day.

They were is­sued with $353 in­fringe­ment no­tices and the al­co­hol was dis­posed of.

Mean­while, on Sun­day night a Mackay girl at Air­lie Beach Schoolies was charged with as­sault oc­ca­sion­ing bod­ily harm.

A po­lice spokesper­son said it was al­leged two 17-year-old Mackay girls who knew each other got into a fight at a Schoolies or­gan­ised dance party.

One girl al­legedly struck the other in the face at 8.30pm.

The al­leged vic­tim sus­tained swelling and bruis­ing to her face but did not re­quire trans­port to hos­pi­tal.

The other girl is ex­pected to ap­pear in the Proser­pine Mag­is­trate’s Court on De­cem­ber 7.

Act­ing Se­nior Sergeant Nathan Blain said apart from those in­ci­dents, Air­lie Beach Schoolies had been well-be­haved.

He urged the high school leavers to con­tinue their good be­hav­iour for the rest of Schoolies week.

“I would hate to see that a silly mis­take they make this week could af­fect them for the rest of their lives,” he said.
