Familiar face joins newspapers’ team

Whitsunday Times - - WHITSUNDAY VIEWS -

DEBORAH Friend has brought out her notepads and brushed up on her shorthand for a temporary stint at the Whitsunday Coast Guardian and Whitsunday Times.

Deborah, who has run her own communications company, Writeaway Whitsundays, for the past eight years and is on the Whitsunday Writers Festival committee, first worked at the Whitsunday

Times from 1991–1994. “I cut my teeth on journalism at the Times,” she said.

The talented writer then returned as relief editor for two months in 2007.

Times and Guardian editor Sharon Smallwood said she was happy to have Deborah on board from now until the Christmas / New Year period, when former Guardian journalist Matthew Newton will be replaced.

“It is great to be able to welcome Deborah back to the APN fold and she has certainly hit the ground running this week,” she said.

Deborah said she was excited to get back into the newspaper game for a while.
