Crown on offer at local raceway

Whitsunday Times - - MOTORING / SPORT -

THE Whitsunday Raceway will see some fierce competition on Saturday, playing host to round two of the Triple Crown karting titles.

Whitsunday Motosport Club karting secretary Bob Thorburn said the race field was already looking healthy.

“So far we have 57 pre-nominations, and you can also nominate on the day, so we’ll have at least that many,” he said.

The first round of the competition was held in Townsville last fortnight, bringing in racers from far and wide.

“There were people there from as far north as Cairns,” Mr Thorburn said.

“So there’s a few of those guys coming down to this one.”

Mr Thorburn said the expanded field would make for some interesting competition.

“So it’s going to be exciting to watch if people are interested in getting into the sport,” he said.

Those wanting to come and have a look are encouraged to do so, with free admission.

Gates open at 7am with race entries cutting off at 9am.

Racers can test their karts from 8am, finishing at 9.30am for a 10am start to racing.

Registration costs $60 for pre-entries and $70 on the day.
