Packed golf fields

Af­ter a few quiet weeks, play­ing num­bers re­turned to nor­mal at the Proser­pine Golf Club, with more than 70 play­ers tak­ing part in the Ho­tel Metropole sta­ble­ford.

The win­ner on the day was Jim Cochrane (45), who edged out birth­day boy Neil Cawthorne (41), while the ladies’ prize went to Tony Clauss (38) from Caro­line Awdry, Wendy Bradley and Trish McNeill (35). In the men’s ball run­down were Rob Smith, Harry Gel­latly, Greg Walker, Pas­cal Ne­un­reuther (40), John Dodds, Matthew Beach and Rob Stan­ley (39).

The two-shot club was shared by Gary Scot­ford, Pas­cal Ne­un­reuther (9), Rob Stan­ley (13) and Greg Walker (16).

In other news, an in­no­va­tive com­pe­ti­tion called Beat The Pro was launched on Satur- day, whereby club pro Kane Nustel­ing chal­lenges com­peti­tors to beat his score through­out the day’s play.

On Satur­day Nustel­ing three-putted one hole, giv­ing him 35 points, which al­lowed 20 of the 45 play­ers par­tic­i­pat­ing to beat him and win a Ti­tlist ball each. Mean­while, Thurs­day hosted more than 50 play­ers for a ver­sus par com­pe­ti­tion. The big win­ner on the day was di­vi­sion two’s John Roser, who carded +7 to fin­ish ahead of Mike Ge­orge (+1). The di­vi­sion one ti­tle went to Jim Cochrane ahead of Michael Ward and Chris Weigand, while the run­down in­cluded War­ren Deighton, Pas­cal Ne­un­reuther (+1) and John Grosskreutz (0).

In di­vi­sion two, Joe Tay­lor (+1), Ron Lit­tle, Neil Cawthorne and Ernie Hol­stein (-1) fin­ished in the ball run­down.
