Three-day ben­der leads to pro­ba­tion for lo­cal man

A MAN who went on a three­day “ben­der” while af­fected by drugs has been placed on pro­ba­tion.

Mark Stephan No­ble ar­rived at Proser­pine Mag­is­trates Court in cus­tody, charged with en­ter­ing a premises with in­tent, tres­pass and con­tra­ven­ing a po­lice di­rec­tion.

The court heard how, on De­cem­ber 3, No­ble, had gone to the Whit­sun­day Sail­ing Club and tried to move a boat with a trac­tor. When po­lice ar­rived he said he had been given the boat by a friend. On De­cem­ber 4, he went to Lit­tle Vegas in Air­lie Beach and fol­lowed an­other per­son around, who be­came fright­ened and asked him to leave.

On De­cem­ber 5, No­ble smashed the win­dow of a van in Co­ral Es­planade, Can­non- vale, and rum­maged around in­side. He was taken into cus­tody but re­fused to sup­ply a DNA sam­ple.

Duty lawyer An­toinette Mor­ton said the 43-year-old, from Mackay, had a ma­jor break­down and had turned to sub­stance abuse. She said he had be­come con­fused and thought he owned half the boat. “He was af­fected by ice,” she said.

Mag­is­trate Haydn St­jern­qvist said “we’ll call this three­day pe­riod a ben­der”.

No­ble was placed on pro­ba­tion for 15 months.
