THE Proserpine Hospital welcomed the very first baby of 2016 on January 2, as Cannonvale resident Kirstie Hardy gave birth to a healthy baby girl named Mia Khaleesi Hales.

Mia was actually due on January 1, but being late to the party did not spoil the surprise, and her parents Kirstie Hardy and Mitchell Hales couldn’t be happier with their joyful start to 2016.

“It’s such a great way to start the year, Mia is our first baby together and we’re really looking forward to spending more time with our family,” Ms Hardy said.

Mia’s name took inspiration from her father’s favourite movie The Fast and the Furious and the popular televi- sion program Game of Thrones.

Mia has three siblings – two sisters and one brother, aged from five to eight.

Ms Hardy said the siblings were all excited about meeting their new baby sister.

“They’re coming down this weekend to meet her, they’re really looking forward to it,” she said.

Ms Hardy also praised the staff at the Proserpine Hospital.

“We had an excellent midwife, and she helped make the experience as pleasant as possible, which was really nice for all of us,” she said.

The Proserpine Hospital maternity ward wished Ms Hardy, Mr Hales and Mia all the best for their future.
