Work starts on new passing lanes for Bruce Hwy

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

THE journey between Mackay and the Whitsundays is on the road to becoming safer now work has begun on two overtaking lanes on the Bruce Hwy.

The project will provide passing lanes southbound at Kitty Creek, 10km north of Kuttabul, and northbound at Carey’s Creek, 7km south of Calen.

Federal Member for Dawson George Christensen said the highway additions would make the roadway safer for drivers.

“Upgrades like these not only increase capacity but also allow motorists to safely overtake slower moving vehicles like trucks, buses and vehicles towing caravans,” he said.

“This is a busy section of the Bruce, not only for those of us who live here but also for the many tourists who travel the coast and those operating heavy vehicles carrying freight.

“It amounts to thousands of vehicles every day.

“These new overtaking lanes between Mackay and Calen are expected to be finished by the middle of the year and I know every single motorist will appreciate them.”
