Options galore on Aussie Day
IT’S almost time to don the thongs and Australian flag-themed boardies – Australia Day is just around the bend.
With Australia renowned for its love of sun and sand, what better place to celebrate our nation than in the Whitsundays?
The region won’t disappoint either, with a wide range of options on offer.
Boom Nightclub is getting in on the action early, taking advantage of the Australia Day holiday with Australia Day Eve celebrations.
With a stellar DJ line-up including Dirty Treble, Bynded, Deejay Micko, Benny Raw and Elkay and free cheeseburgers from 3–4am, there’s plenty to love about an early start to the festivities.
Not to be outdone, Phoenix is kicking it up a notch with two big days.
Monday will see a multitude of crocodile hunters for the Steve Irwin Theme Party.
Backing it up is the Beach Bums Party, celebrating all things Aussie with bikinis and thongs.
Down Under Bar and Grill is taking things to a whole new level with five big days.
Things kick off with Stolen Friday, build to Snapback Saturday, slow down again with Poolside Sessions on Sunday, get their second wind with ladies’ night on Monday and culminate with a bang come Australia Day with the Hottest 100 countdown.
Magnums Hotel is hitting a high note as well, stretching the fun across six huge days.
Seth Sentry sets the pace today, followed by jelly wres- tling and a wet t-shirt contest on Friday and Saturday respectively, then Mashd N Kutcher kick it further on Sunday.
Vandalism creates the vibe on Monday, with Australia Day featuring live music, competitions and games and the Hottest 100 countdown.
Meanwhile, if something a touch more sedate seems your go, the Reef Gateway Hotel will be hosting a raffle with an outdoor setting, $500 cash and barbecue up for grabs.
The Whitsunday Sailing Club is getting into the spirit with beach cricket and thong throwing on the grass.
Upstairs, Lightning Jack and The Flying Club will provide the vibe, with a barbecue lunch feeding the crowds and raising funds for Sailability.
If you’re keen to attend the official ceremony, the council is hosting the Australia Day Awards and celebration and citizenship ceremonies at the Proserpine Entertainment Centre, with a barbecue and live entertainment set to follow.
