Cannons swim on target
The Cannonvale Cannons competed at the Ayr Swimming Carnival on Saturday, with coach Ken Crittenden saying he was very happy with the 20 swimmers performances.
Alannis and Cameron Rusk swam at their first club meet and performed well. Alannis finished 11th in her 50m backstroke in a time of 57.99 seconds.
Cameron swam an awesome 50m backstroke in 40.64 seconds. Cameron is only one second off qualifying for state title for his 50m freestyle and backstroke.
Ryan Giles also swam in his first club carnival and his best swim was his 50m freestyle.
Kimba Simmonds, Nash McIntosh, Evie Herlihy and Paige Giles were extremely competitive. They swam PBs for most of their swims.
Maddi and Kieran McGoldrick swam two PBs for the 50m butterfly.
Jacob Dewis, Ky Erickson, Emily Vique, Chloe Robertson and Jy Parkinson all swam well, with Jacob achieving first place for his 50m freestyle. Jy won first place for his 50m backstroke swim, Ky’s best swim was his 50m freestyle which was under 30 seconds.
These five swimmers have achieved state qualifying times and are to compete in Brisbane mid-February.
Hannah Crittenden swam under 35 seconds for her 50m freestyle and under 50 seconds for her 50m breaststroke. Rylee Erickson’s best swims were her 50m breaststroke and butterfly.
Zoe Herlihy took 10 seconds off her 50m freestyle time. Annaleise McIntosh and Stephanie McGoldrick’s best swim was their 50m freestyle while Arcadia Simmonds swam an impressive 50m backstroke.
Gus Hedges, from Bowen, swam extremely well, just half a second from state qualifying times.
The Cannonvale Cannons will host their annual swim carnival this weekend, with swimmers from across North Queensland competing.
