Early Australia Day scorcher at Prossie bowls
BOWLS: On Sunday, a little breeze moderated what was nearly a sizzling hot day in Proserpine.
With Australia Day falling on a Tuesday this year, club members decided to hold their Australia Day social bowls on Sunday to allow everyone to also attend the celebrations around town.
The sun shone down fairly relentlessly on those participating but there was nonetheless some wonderful bowls played by the 26 people who took part.
Philip Brown, Lois Read and Barry Zillmann snuck ahead on the last end to defeat Neil Robertson, Wendy Pomeroy and Shane May 2521.
Lillian Harris, Patsy Black (visitor) and Kevin Thoro- good drew 18-all with Fran Porter, Sandy Daffara and Heather Brown.
Lu Lu Simpson, Dot Hinschen and Shane Spann defeated Trudy Hanne, Dan Robinson and Maree Daffara 19-14.
Caitlin Daely (visitor), Lorraine Daley, John Henderson and Ross Reville defeated Colleen Williams (visitor), Jeanette Calway, Vicki Spann and Wayne Handley 18-8.
The Sunday trophy draw was decided on the most ends won.
Ross Reville’s team won this with 14 ends.
There is a new Super Saturday men’s competition starting on Saturday, with a three bowl pairs format.
Names must be in by 1.30pm for a 2pm start.
Teams will be determined by a random draw.
Members and non-members are welcome.
In the ladies division, the club thanked those who brought along damper for Sunday’s Australia Day mixed social bowls.
For those suffering withdrawal symptoms, the break from Wednesday bowls is quickly coming to an end.
The next committee meeting is on Monday, February 8, at 2pm.
Ladies bowls will be beginning back on Wednesday, February 17.
Nominations are now open for all club competitions.
All competition nominations will then close on the club’s official opening day, Wednesday, March 2.
