Air­lie bowlers get into spirit of Aus­tralia Day

BOWLS: The Air­lie Beach Bowls Club Aus­tralia Day break­fast and bowls was a great suc­cess, with 30 mem­bers and friends at­tend­ing and play­ing at the event.

Win­ners for the day in­cluded Bruce Pur­die, Henny Tat­tam and Elaine Had­low de­feat­ing Tess Walker, Rick Brun­nell and Regina Aquilina 17 – 1.

Denise Patterson, Shirley Lollo and Brian De­laney de­feated He­len Sed­man, Cyn­thia De­laney and Jom Lollo 14 – 5.

Paul Os­borne, Mar­garet Heeney and Margo Stan­ley de­feated Peter Bar­ret, Phil But­ler and Steve Tat­tam 11 – 7.

Ladda Pur­die, An­drew But­ler and Betty Ni­colle de­feated Di Dob­bons, Lane Telford and Jenny Ry­der 10 – 7.

Men’s bowls on Wed­nes­day at­tracted a small group of play­ers assem­ble de­spite the heat.

Win­ners for the day in­cluded Louise Ma­hony and Kevin Jewell, beat­ing Paul Os­borne and Jim Cairns 24 – 10.

John Sladek and Dom Sposato de­feated John Ryan and David Dias in a close game with their fi­nal score set­tling at 18 – 17.

Fri­day night Bare­foot Bowls is still on, how­ever book­ings are es­sen­tial.

Sun­day bowls saw a slew of ded­i­cated play­ers play­ing de­spite the op­pres­sive heat.

Win­ners for the day were Paul Os­borne, Henny Tat­tam and David Dias, and Con­nie Reimers, Dom Sposato and Kevin Jewell.

Busi­ness house bowls com­menced on Wed­nes­day, Fe­bru­ary 3, with games from 6.30–8.15pm, in­clud­ing din­ner.

Coach­ing will be held at the club ev­ery Tues­day and Thurs­day for the month of Fe­bru­ary from 9am.

Any new or ex­ist­ing res­i­dents who would like to learn to play bowls are en­cour­aged to come along.
