Airlie bowlers get into spirit of Australia Day
BOWLS: The Airlie Beach Bowls Club Australia Day breakfast and bowls was a great success, with 30 members and friends attending and playing at the event.
Winners for the day included Bruce Purdie, Henny Tattam and Elaine Hadlow defeating Tess Walker, Rick Brunnell and Regina Aquilina 17 – 1.
Denise Patterson, Shirley Lollo and Brian Delaney defeated Helen Sedman, Cynthia Delaney and Jom Lollo 14 – 5.
Paul Osborne, Margaret Heeney and Margo Stanley defeated Peter Barret, Phil Butler and Steve Tattam 11 – 7.
Ladda Purdie, Andrew Butler and Betty Nicolle defeated Di Dobbons, Lane Telford and Jenny Ryder 10 – 7.
Men’s bowls on Wednesday attracted a small group of players assemble despite the heat.
Winners for the day included Louise Mahony and Kevin Jewell, beating Paul Osborne and Jim Cairns 24 – 10.
John Sladek and Dom Sposato defeated John Ryan and David Dias in a close game with their final score settling at 18 – 17.
Friday night Barefoot Bowls is still on, however bookings are essential.
Sunday bowls saw a slew of dedicated players playing despite the oppressive heat.
Winners for the day were Paul Osborne, Henny Tattam and David Dias, and Connie Reimers, Dom Sposato and Kevin Jewell.
Business house bowls commenced on Wednesday, February 3, with games from 6.30–8.15pm, including dinner.
Coaching will be held at the club every Tuesday and Thursday for the month of February from 9am.
Any new or existing residents who would like to learn to play bowls are encouraged to come along.
