RSL says thank you
THE Airlie Beach RSL Sub Branch said thank you to members and volunteers at a meeting last Wednesday night.
Ted Wright, Bob Mohle and Joan Rose were all given Australia Day certificates of appreciation for their ongoing efforts within the RSL.
“Bob Mohle is presented this award for his never-failing support of the Airlie Beach RSL. He did all the concrete work for our cenotaph, wall of remembrance and the new midshipmen memorial on the Esplanade. These sorts of awards don’t get handed to just anyone,” RSL founding member Bill Rose said.
Mr Mohle said he would treasure the award.
“I love doing jobs for the RSL, it’s a great group of people and it’s for a great cause,” he said.
Committee member Joan Rose was also given an award.
“Joan has been an active committee member of the RSL since 1999. She has been our refreshment officer and our fundraising officer, and has raised over $33,000 in meat tray raffles alone,” Mr Rose said.
Mrs Rose said this year ho- wever, she planned to take some time off.
“I’m planning to go away for a holiday for a few weeks this year, so I appreciate all the help I can get,” she joked.
Ted Wright was also presented an Australia Day Certificate of Appreciation and an Australia Day medal.
“Ted Wright was a founding member of our RSL, and has always been the first to put his hand up and volunteer for any job. He plays an integral role in our fundraising, and has always been there when we’ve needed someone,” Mr Rose said.
