Airlie bowlers brave the wet conditions
AIRLIE BOWLS: Despite the rain, the Airlie Beach Bowls Club has been in full swing this week.
The Ladies Division had their first meeting for the year last Tuesday.
The club discussed a number of items and the year’s events.
The club will continue to play on Wednesday afternoon’s until after the Mixed Open Day on Sunday, February 21.
On Wednesday, the bowlers played triples, with Dom Sposato, Elaine Kippen and Nik Fernbach defeating Jim Cairns, Rick Brunell 24 – 11 and Bob Feeney, Tony Kelly and David Dias defeated Louise Mahony, John Sladek and Jill Spencer 22 – 18.
Wednesday evening saw the start of the Business House Bowls Competition.
Winners for the event with a score of seven was BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort Park, followed by Bendigo Community Bank (6), Porters Pounders (5), Woollies Allsorts (4), Cold Rock (3), Whitsunday Transit (2) and The Mighties (1).
On Sunday morning the club held a Strategic Planning Meeting to discuss the future of the club.
Winners for Sunday bowls had Louise Mahony, Paul Osborne and Jenny Ryder defeat Cynthia Delaney, Brian Delany and Jill Spencer 15 – 9.
Other games saw Elaine Kippen and Margo Stanley defeat Dom Sposato and David Dias 14 – 10 and Peter Lawton, Connie Reimers and Nik Fernbach defeat Rick Brunell, Margaret Heeney and Henny Tattam 14 – 10.

Margo Stanley is conducting coaching lessons every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 9.00am, anyone new to the area is very welcome as well as existing members.
