Air­lie bowlers brave the wet con­di­tions

AIR­LIE BOWLS: De­spite the rain, the Air­lie Beach Bowls Club has been in full swing this week.

The Ladies Divi­sion had their first meet­ing for the year last Tues­day.

The club dis­cussed a num­ber of items and the year’s events.

The club will con­tinue to play on Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon’s un­til af­ter the Mixed Open Day on Sun­day, Fe­bru­ary 21.

On Wed­nes­day, the bowlers played triples, with Dom Sposato, Elaine Kip­pen and Nik Fern­bach de­feat­ing Jim Cairns, Rick Brunell 24 – 11 and Bob Feeney, Tony Kelly and David Dias de­feated Louise Ma­hony, John Sladek and Jill Spencer 22 – 18.

Wed­nes­day evening saw the start of the Busi­ness House Bowls Com­pe­ti­tion.

Win­ners for the event with a score of seven was BIG4 Ad­ven­ture Whit­sun­day Re­sort Park, fol­lowed by Bendigo Com­mu­nity Bank (6), Porters Pounders (5), Wool­lies All­sorts (4), Cold Rock (3), Whit­sun­day Tran­sit (2) and The Might­ies (1).

On Sun­day morn­ing the club held a Strate­gic Plan­ning Meet­ing to dis­cuss the fu­ture of the club.

Win­ners for Sun­day bowls had Louise Ma­hony, Paul Os­borne and Jenny Ry­der de­feat Cyn­thia De­laney, Brian De­lany and Jill Spencer 15 – 9.

Other games saw Elaine Kip­pen and Margo Stan­ley de­feat Dom Sposato and David Dias 14 – 10 and Peter Lawton, Con­nie Reimers and Nik Fern­bach de­feat Rick Brunell, Mar­garet Heeney and Henny Tat­tam 14 – 10.

Please re­mem­ber that the Nom­i­na­tion Forms for Club Cham­pi­onships (men and wo- men) are on the No­tice Board at the club.

Margo Stan­ley is con­duct­ing coach­ing lessons ev­ery Tues­day and Thurs­day morn­ing at 9.00am, any­one new to the area is very wel­come as well as ex­ist­ing mem­bers.
