Police officer caught drink-driving at 0.2
A POLICE officer was fined $1500 and disqualified from driving for 10 months after he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol while off duty.
Aaron Matthew Fitzpatrick delivered a blood alcohol reading of 0.206 after police were called to a crash in Be- gley St, Airlie Beach, at about 10.30pm on December 20 last year.
Defence lawyer Ms McPherson told the Proserpine Magistrate’s Court the 30-year-old father of two had joined the police force in 2011 in Toowoomba before moving to Proserpine.
She said personal circumstances had seen him “drinking in excess” but that otherwise he had an exemplary record and this was out of character.
“He has been stood down and will face police disciplinary procedures. His family, colleagues and the communi- ty are very disappointed in him and he is ashamed,” she added
Magistrate Simon Young said as someone who enjoyed a high level of trust in the community “you have breached that trust so I have to give consideration to making an example of you for the community”.
