Whitsunday Times - - WHITSUNDAY VIEWS -

IN RESPONSE to Rogin Taylor’s letter to the editor, Whit

sunday Times, January 28, yes it is a good idea to check the facts Mr Taylor.

According to the minute I have it was you who moved the motion to purchase the Havegrand site for a sports park when Brunker as mayor declared an interest and left the room.

It is fair comment to remind voters of the inadequacy of the previous council, given this site was unsupported by Main Roads and most sports clubs in the area at the time.

Your inference that this proposal was a unanimous decision by councilors is incorrect as both councillors Whitney and Clifford voted against the decision to purchase this land and it was only you and Councillors Gaudry, Clark, and Ramage from Bowen who supported this proposal.

Havegrand was in fact purchased by council for $2.2 million and there were costs associated with that purchase as you would well know, which now amount to around $300,000.
