On the bowling green in Airlie Beach
BOWLS: The Airlie Beach Bowls Club has been a hive of activity, with games happening almost every day of the week. Coaching of new and existing bowlers continues to attract numbers, with free coaching every Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9am.
There will be a coaching session at 11am this Saturday with a barbecue to follow. This Saturday will also see the recommencement of Scroungers for 2016, with members asked to be at the club by 12.30pm, and will cost $10 per player.
Wednesday’s winners were Elaine Kippen, Dom Sposato and Margo Stanley, defeating Henny Tattam, John Ryan and Steve Tattam 26 – 12.
Jill Sencer, Paul Osborne, Rick Brunell and Nick Fernbach defeated John Sladek, Jim Cairns and Barry Zillmann, 31 -21.
Last Wednesday was the final time that the ladies will be joining the men on a Wednesday afternoon, as from Tuesday, February 23 the ladies will start playing on their regular Tuesday. The Bowls Club encourages all women members and their friends to come and join just in time for the start of the season.
Wednesday evening Busi- ness House Bowls saw the tables turned on last week’s winners. Bendigo Community Bank, Cold Rock and The Mighties are on six points, Big 4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort and Whitsunday Transit are on four points and Porters Pounders and Woolies Allsorts are on two points.
Unfortunately the PRD teams have withdrawn from the competition, if there are any business houses who would like to join in, please call Paul Osborne on 0409 891 564. Cost is $15 per player which includes your game of bowls and dinner. Games begin at 6.30pm.
Friday night barefoot bowls continues to be a great success, with the Bald Eagles plus many other locals coming down to the green and enjoying a night out. Cost is $15 per player, which includes your game plus a sausage sizzle. Please phone the club on 4946 7656 if you would like to book a rink for this Friday.
Sunday afternoon bowls was also well attended with the company of the Hamilton Island Social Club joining in on the action. Winners for the afternoon were Ron Reimers, Rick Brunell and Jenny Ryder defeated Elaine Kippen, Henny Tattam and Nick Ferbach 17 – 7. Louise Mahony, Margaret Heeney and Margo Stanley defeated Connie Reimers, Dom Sposato and Betty Nicolle 16 -8.
This Sunday will be the Airlie Beach Bowls club Mixed Open Day, and everyone is invited to come along for the start of the bowling season. Please be at the club by 12.30pm or register your names by calling the club.
