On the bowl­ing green in Air­lie Beach

BOWLS: The Air­lie Beach Bowls Club has been a hive of ac­tiv­ity, with games hap­pen­ing al­most ev­ery day of the week. Coach­ing of new and ex­ist­ing bowlers con­tin­ues to at­tract num­bers, with free coach­ing ev­ery Tues­day and Thurs­day morn­ings at 9am.

There will be a coach­ing ses­sion at 11am this Satur­day with a bar­be­cue to fol­low. This Satur­day will also see the recom­mence­ment of Scroungers for 2016, with mem­bers asked to be at the club by 12.30pm, and will cost $10 per player.

Wed­nes­day’s win­ners were Elaine Kip­pen, Dom Sposato and Margo Stan­ley, de­feat­ing Henny Tat­tam, John Ryan and Steve Tat­tam 26 – 12.

Jill Sencer, Paul Os­borne, Rick Brunell and Nick Fern­bach de­feated John Sladek, Jim Cairns and Barry Zill­mann, 31 -21.

Last Wed­nes­day was the fi­nal time that the ladies will be join­ing the men on a Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon, as from Tues­day, Fe­bru­ary 23 the ladies will start play­ing on their reg­u­lar Tues­day. The Bowls Club en­cour­ages all women mem­bers and their friends to come and join just in time for the start of the sea­son.

Wed­nes­day evening Busi- ness House Bowls saw the ta­bles turned on last week’s win­ners. Bendigo Com­mu­nity Bank, Cold Rock and The Might­ies are on six points, Big 4 Ad­ven­ture Whit­sun­day Re­sort and Whit­sun­day Tran­sit are on four points and Porters Pounders and Woolies All­sorts are on two points.

Un­for­tu­nately the PRD teams have with­drawn from the com­pe­ti­tion, if there are any busi­ness houses who would like to join in, please call Paul Os­borne on 0409 891 564. Cost is $15 per player which in­cludes your game of bowls and din­ner. Games be­gin at 6.30pm.

Fri­day night bare­foot bowls con­tin­ues to be a great suc­cess, with the Bald Ea­gles plus many other lo­cals com­ing down to the green and en­joy­ing a night out. Cost is $15 per player, which in­cludes your game plus a sausage siz­zle. Please phone the club on 4946 7656 if you would like to book a rink for this Fri­day.

Sun­day af­ter­noon bowls was also well at­tended with the com­pany of the Hamil­ton Is­land So­cial Club join­ing in on the ac­tion. Win­ners for the af­ter­noon were Ron Reimers, Rick Brunell and Jenny Ry­der de­feated Elaine Kip­pen, Henny Tat­tam and Nick Fer­bach 17 – 7. Louise Ma­hony, Mar­garet Heeney and Margo Stan­ley de­feated Con­nie Reimers, Dom Sposato and Betty Ni­colle 16 -8.

This Sun­day will be the Air­lie Beach Bowls club Mixed Open Day, and ev­ery­one is in­vited to come along for the start of the bowl­ing sea­son. Please be at the club by 12.30pm or reg­is­ter your names by call­ing the club.

Nom­i­na­tion Forms are on the No­tice Board for the Club Cham­pi­onship Events, the draw for all events will be done soon af­ter the open day.
