Put fun in fundraiser

THE Vol­un­teer Marine Res­cue Trop­i­cana Ball is back.

The pop­u­lar VMR ball will be held at the up­graded Marine Club on March 5 and will fea­ture great mu­sic from lo­cal band White Rock and a de­li­cious buf­fet din­ner.

Event or­gan­iser Linda Pri­day said the event was a fun way to sup­port a good cause.

“It will cer­tainly be a fun night for ev­ery­one, and it’s help­ing raise funds for the Vol­un­teer Marine Res­cue, for the pur­chase of their new ves­sel and the on­go­ing main­te­nance costs for all their equip­ment,” she said.

“The VMR is run by a group of fan­tas­tic vol­un­teers who are called out daily, at all hours of the day and night, this is an op­por­tu­nity for the com­mu­nity to say thank you for all the help and sup­port that VMR pro­vide the Whit­sun­day re­gion.”

The ball is the ma­jor fundraiser event for the year, and the money raised will help vol­un­teers con­tinue to save lives at sea. “Ev­ery­one is wel­come to at­tend; there will be some fan­tas­tic items for up for auc­tion and raf­fle prizes that the lo­cal com­mu­nity have kindly do­nated, in­clud­ing is­land stays, re­sort ac­com­mo­da­tion and din­ners for two,” Ms Pri­day said.

Guests are in­vited to dress in Air­lie trop­i­cal ca­sual, so don your best flow­ered shirts and sway­ing skirts and kick back in a trop­i­cal won­der­land.

Tick­ets are $75 a per­son and are avail­able for pur­chase from Whit­sun­day Book­ings or Air­ly­wood.

Tick­ets to the ball can also be used for a $2 bus ride to the ball on Whit­sun­day Tran­sit’s reg­u­lar ser­vice, and a free re­turn to your near­est bus stop at the end of the evening.
