Dirt riders start CQ series
LOCAL dirt riders tested their mettle in Rockhampton at the weekend, taking part in round one of the CQ Motocross Series.
Twelve Whitsunday Dirt Riders headed south, kicking off the 2016 season.
In the senior lites brothers Ashley and Wilson Norman went head to head across the two days, with Wilson taking seventh position and Ashley claiming second.
Ryan Wynn brought it home for the junior riders, placing third in the junior lites twostroke and the junior lites four-stroke.
The four-stroke division also had newcomers Jayden Mckellin in 13th and Brodie Winston one place behind.
Jade Derbyshire rode hard in the largest class of round one, clubman lites, bringing home the 33rd spot.
Georgia Murray took to the track in the ladies’ class, running home in fourth.
WDR was well represented in the senior open class, with riders Riley Norman, Darcy Moulding, Ben Roe and Rob Fuller taking the contest to the competition.
Norman just missed the podium, coming in fourth, while Moulding, Roe and Fuller claimed 12th, 17th and 19th respectively.
Roe also ran in the masters class, missing a medal positions by one place.
Liam Moulding put paid to the competition, claiming silver for the club in the clubman opens.
Contesting the competition in blazing heat and with un- forgiving track conditions, the club got off to a solid start to its 2016 season.
