Whitsunday Times - - WHITSUNDAY VIEWS -

FOR an outsider like me, it is difficult to see through all the ‘for and against’ decisions that have been made about this project.

So, I will try to look at it realistically.

1. Chinatown would be a big development.

2. It would create jobs during building and permanent employment for a large number of people, with all the usual economic flow-on effects, thereafter.

3. It would be a much needed "land based" point of interest for our local and international travellers.

4. And, like it or not, it would enhance cultural understanding in an ever changing multi-cultural world.

But, sadly, having the wisdom to adapt and appreciate the cultural differences involved in the decision-making process, and in the end benefit from it, is perhaps asking too much when western principles are at stake. Heinz Schneider Cannonvale
