Market success

Whitsunday Times - - WHITSUNDAY VIEWS -

AFTER another wonderful weekend with cruise ships Dawn Princess and Queen Victoria anchored off Airlie Beach, Whitsunday Lions Club would like to take this opportunity to thank the Lions Airlie Beach Markets stall holders, who turn up in all types of weather, and our local community for their support in making these markets such an outstanding success.

Although our charges are minimal, such success makes it possible for our local Lions club to donate in excess of $100,000 per annum to our local community and provide significant disaster relief both throughout Australia and the greater global community. Local assistance includes donations to Proserpine Hospital and Proserpine Nursing Home where our most recent donation purchased specialised care chairs for the residents comfort.

Over 16 years ago Whitsunday Shire Council asked our club to take over management of the Airlie Beach markets. Since that time the markets have grown and become world renown. This is not only for their tropical charm, local produce and variety, but in particular, for their unique picturesque location by the sands of Airlie Beach.

Our Lions market manager and assistant often talk with visitors who confirm the popularity of the markets and that they also provide a gateway for visitors to extend their visit by exploring the main street and all the other services our great little town can provide.

So once again, thanks for the support which allows us to assist and benefit so many people, organisations and facilities.

Betty A. Wilson,

President, Whitsunday Lions Club
