LOCAL STARS ON BIG SCREEN
Kids have their say on world and local issues for Youth Week doco
WILD Ones are set to make their debut on the big screen, after the Wild Ones Youth Management Team participated in filming of a documentary on the weekend.
Thirteen of the YMT were tasked with thinking about the future, with the theme of the documentary being where they see the world in 16 years time.
Ron Petterson, founder of Wild Ones, said he was amazed by the response from the children.
“We got them to think about major world or local issues they think are important, and where they will see those issues in 16 years time,” Mr Petterson said.
“We asked them to come up with a question about an issue and we asked those questions and filmed their responses.
“We were really impressed with some of the questions and answers they came up with.
“They spoke about world wars and terrorism, politics, the future of retail and customer service,” he said.
“It was really interesting to see how switched on these children are on social issues.”
The YMT was filmed by Third Dimension Media, who will edit footage and produce a 40-minute documentary.
We got them to think about major world or local issues they think are important.
“The YMT are all 11, 12 and 13 year olds,” Mr Petterson said.
“It was really amazing to hear what they came up with, and some of the answers were quite powerful, it even got a bit emotional listening to what they had to say.”
The documentary was made possible by a successful grant application from the State Government.
“The Government were of- fering grants for Youth Week, and myself and Cassie Holeczy from the PCYC came up with the documentary idea, and we were successful in receiving the grant.”
Youth Week runs from April 8–17 and the documentary will be completed before then, by April 4.
“We will be having a screening of the documentary at the PCYC, and will show it to the local schools as well.”
