MAR­TIAL ARTS: Whit­sun­day tae kwon do kids stepped up a level this week af­ter grad­ing by a mas­ter ex­am­iner.

A to­tal of 21 ju­niors and three se­niors passed and ad­vanced to their next level or Gup.

The grad­ing was con­ducted by mas­ter in­struc­tor and ex­am­iner, Vicky Gil­lam, who holds a fifth dan black belt. She was as­sisted by se­cond dan black belt in­struc­tor Jim Hodges.

All stu­dents have worked ex­tremely hard to get to this stage in their train­ing and there were some no­table achieve­ments.

From the lit­tle Tigers – kids aged four to seven – there was di­rect pro­mo­tion to ju­niors for Vivien Rose and dou­ble pro­mo­tions were awarded to Kelvin Ne­wham, Tavis McDon­ald and Charli Young.

The Best Grad­ing Tro­phies were awarded to Bai­ley Flan­nery, El­liot Sta­ton, Tavis McDon­ald and Austin Ed­wards-Bland.

Whit­sun­day Taek­wondo Oh Do Kwan has train­ing ses­sions on Mon­day and Wed­nes­day at the Proser­pine High School and at the Can­non­vale State School on Tues­day and Thurs­day.
