Changes to banking and post office services, where you can go:
SUNDAY night’s fire won’t stop our letters getting where they’re going.
An Australia Post spokesperson said alternative arrangements had been made.
“Due to fire damage at the (Whitsunday) Shopping Centre, parcels and PO Box mail will temporarily be available to collect at the Cannonvale Delivery Centre, located at 2/8 Myer Lasky Dr, Cannonvale, behind Centro Whitsunday, from Thursday, April 7,” the spokesperson said.
“The delivery centre is open 9am-5pm for mail collection.”
For services not available at the delivery centre, customers are going to have to make the drive to Proserpine.
“Other postal services such as banking and bill payment services, identity and travel services can continue to be accessed at the Proserpine Post Office located at 13 Main St, Proserpine,” the spokesperson said.
Australia Post apologised for the inconvenience, saying they Cannonvale store will be back “as soon as it is safe for our staff and customers”.
With the Cannonvale Westpac branch destroyed by the blaze, the bank has advised customers to visit their stores at Whitsunday Plaza and 269 Shute Harbour Rd in Airlie Beach, or the Australia Post stores in Proserpine and, once it reopens, Cannonvale.
SERVICES CONTINUE: Australia Post has made alternative arrangements.
