Beach bowlers get busy on the green
AIRLIE BOWLS: Men’s day on Wednesday saw nine on the green, with Paul Osborne as a double lead.
The triples team with Paul Osborne, Jim Cairns and Nik Fernbach won with 28 against Paul Osborne, Rick Brunell and Peter Lawton (9).
Kevin Jewell and Rick Galea took to the green for a game of doubles, beating Steve Tattam and John Sladek 26 to 17.
Sunday Social Mixed bowls was attended by 22, with an even split of men and women.
Winners of the money were pairs team Rick Brunell and Kevin Jewell, carding 22 to beat Henny Tattam and David Dias (17). A triples game saw Bruce Purdie, Alison Holmes and Elaine Hadlow beat Henny Tattam and David Dias 21 to 15.
Another triples game was won by Bob Feeney, Connie Reimers and Steve Tattam.
They triumphed over Louise Mahony, Eric Bottle and Jenny Ryder 21 to 14.
The closest triples game was Elaine Kippen, Jill Spencer and Betty Nicolle.
The trio recorded 17 over Paul Osborne, Domenico Sposato and Margo Stanley who came close with 14.
Men’s Pennant competitions start on Sunday, April 10 at North Mackay Bowls Club. Pennant players should be at the Airlie Beach Bowls Club on Saturday at 1pm for trials.
