Proser­pine sea­son sets off

GOLF: The of­fi­cial start of the 2016 golf sea­son got un­der way on Satur­day with the hold­ing of the an­nual Pa­tron’s Day.

Club pa­tron Bill Woods was un­able to at­tend, with Caro­line Awdry step­ping up to hit the first ball of the sea­son.

Com­pet­ing in both a 4BBB and sin­gle Stable­ford event, win­ners of the 4BBB were John Russo and Rob Wil­son with a score of 50 points, beat­ing run­ners-up Kevin Campbell and Ben Smith by two points on 48.

Kevin Campbell won the in­di­vid­ual event with a score of 46, six ahead of run­ner-up Andy Pear­son on 40.

In the in­di­vid­ual run­down were John Roser, Chris Weigand, Scott Grigg and Rob Wil­son (all 38), with Michael Cragg (37), and John Russo (37).

The ladies also com­peted in an in­di­vid­ual Stable­ford event with the win­ner be­ing Jan Shuwalow, beat­ing Lyn Muller in count­back, both on 35, with Paula McQuat and Faye El­der on 34.

Near­est the pins went to Peter Hall on No.2, Rob Stan­ley and Lyn Muller (9), John Roser (13), and Jaymes Til­ley (16). The two shot club was shared three ways be­tween Dave Bower, Mark Richards and Rob Wil­son who all birdied No.16.

Fifty play­ers turned out for a Ver­sus Par event on Thurs­day, with the Di­vi­sion 1 win­ner be­ing John Kent (+3), ahead of run­ner-up Perri Simpson (+2)while Div.2 went to Russell Rear­don who beat Ron Thynne.

Ladies golf

Re­hab Hull was the big win­ner in Wed­nes­day’s McNeill Build­ing monthly medal for April, nar­rowly beat­ing run­ner-up Mar­lene Gray on count­back, both with nett 77.

In the run­down were Beryl Nos­wor­thy and Tr­ish McNeill (78), with Anne Gardel, Jac­qui Wall and Jan Shuwalow all com­ing in with nett 80.

Near­est the pins went to Deborah Suther­land on No.9, Mandy Pat­ter­son, and Jac­qui Wall. Re­hab Hull won the least num­ber of putts with 26 putts.

Com­ing up for the ladies on Satur­day is the Paya Ladies Stable­ford, and April 20 is the Kath Borer Stroke and Putts



Four­teen play­ers hit the front nine this week. 1st Bruce Upchurch (52/38). 2nd Tony Spur­way (43/39). 3rd Barry Mount (60/41). Near­est the pin: Tony Sel­wood and Ja­son Bourke.


Thirty-three vet­er­ans took to the course on Tues­day, with Jim Grace (21) tak­ing out the nine-hole com­pe­ti­tion.

Jan Schuwalow (20) took run­ner up, ahead of Mick Bur­rows, Tony Sell­wood, Caro­line Awdry (19), Tom Flem­ing and Jim Dowel (18).

Near­est the pins were Peter Scrivens and Tess Aitken.

The 18-hole com­pe­ti­tion had Tom Flem­ing (39) in top spot, beat­ing Jim Grace (37) into run­ner up.

In the run­down were Tony Sell­wood, Vic Feld­man (35), Patrick Pat­ter­son (34), Peter Brown­ing and Russell Rear­don (33).

Near­est the pins were Tony Wool­ridge and Paula Wron­ski.

The vet­er­ans are in Collinsville next week, with no of­fi­cial game in Proser­pine.
