Proserpine season sets off
GOLF: The official start of the 2016 golf season got under way on Saturday with the holding of the annual Patron’s Day.
Club patron Bill Woods was unable to attend, with Caroline Awdry stepping up to hit the first ball of the season.
Competing in both a 4BBB and single Stableford event, winners of the 4BBB were John Russo and Rob Wilson with a score of 50 points, beating runners-up Kevin Campbell and Ben Smith by two points on 48.
Kevin Campbell won the individual event with a score of 46, six ahead of runner-up Andy Pearson on 40.
In the individual rundown were John Roser, Chris Weigand, Scott Grigg and Rob Wilson (all 38), with Michael Cragg (37), and John Russo (37).
The ladies also competed in an individual Stableford event with the winner being Jan Shuwalow, beating Lyn Muller in countback, both on 35, with Paula McQuat and Faye Elder on 34.
Nearest the pins went to Peter Hall on No.2, Rob Stanley and Lyn Muller (9), John Roser (13), and Jaymes Tilley (16). The two shot club was shared three ways between Dave Bower, Mark Richards and Rob Wilson who all birdied No.16.
Fifty players turned out for a Versus Par event on Thursday, with the Division 1 winner being John Kent (+3), ahead of runner-up Perri Simpson (+2)while Div.2 went to Russell Reardon who beat Ron Thynne.
Rehab Hull was the big winner in Wednesday’s McNeill Building monthly medal for April, narrowly beating runner-up Marlene Gray on countback, both with nett 77.
In the rundown were Beryl Nosworthy and Trish McNeill (78), with Anne Gardel, Jacqui Wall and Jan Shuwalow all coming in with nett 80.
Nearest the pins went to Deborah Sutherland on No.9, Mandy Patterson, and Jacqui Wall. Rehab Hull won the least number of putts with 26 putts.
Coming up for the ladies on Saturday is the Paya Ladies Stableford, and April 20 is the Kath Borer Stroke and Putts
Fourteen players hit the front nine this week. 1st Bruce Upchurch (52/38). 2nd Tony Spurway (43/39). 3rd Barry Mount (60/41). Nearest the pin: Tony Selwood and Jason Bourke.
Thirty-three veterans took to the course on Tuesday, with Jim Grace (21) taking out the nine-hole competition.
Jan Schuwalow (20) took runner up, ahead of Mick Burrows, Tony Sellwood, Caroline Awdry (19), Tom Fleming and Jim Dowel (18).
Nearest the pins were Peter Scrivens and Tess Aitken.
The 18-hole competition had Tom Fleming (39) in top spot, beating Jim Grace (37) into runner up.
In the rundown were Tony Sellwood, Vic Feldman (35), Patrick Patterson (34), Peter Browning and Russell Reardon (33).
Nearest the pins were Tony Woolridge and Paula Wronski.
The veterans are in Collinsville next week, with no official game in Proserpine.
