Marina upgrade

Whitsunday Times - - WHITSUNDAY VIEWS -

MAY we congratulate the owner of Abell Point Marina for the wonderful job he has done over the last few years with the upgrading and revamping of the Abell Point Marina and surrounds.

It is truly something to be proud of and an asset to the Whitsundays.

We should all be appreciative for the beautification of this area.

The recent tidy up of the Shingley Beach area by the owner of Abell Point Marina is also to be commended and we convey our sincere thanks for his efforts.

What a huge pity that such work is not deemed to be seen as normal standard procedure to be undertaken by our own council (to whom we pay exorbitant rates) to beautify the area that we live in.

Why should it take the commitment and dedication of business owners, developers and individual ratepayers to ensure that we have beautiful and picturesque areas to relax in and enjoy?

Sadly, our council’s employed staff appear to lack all sense of drive, initiative, imagination and ability to produce the top quality results required to lift the image of this magic area in which we live.

Our Botanical Gardens are a classic example, as is the park next to Cannonvale School where tree and shrub removal is their only speciality.

Maybe we need to get rid of those employed in this area and contract it out to private individuals who do have the necessary skills and it would also prove to be a much cheaper alternative.

May we plead with our new, incoming councillors and mayor to please ensure that the council staff meet all of the above requirements.

Otherwise, why are they employing them?

Fin Forbes Cannonvale
